German Election Studies Series

Investigator: Forschungsgruppe (WAHLEN) Mannheim

Summary

The German Election Studies series is a project of the Zentralarchiv fur Empirische Sozialforschung, with collaborative efforts provided at different stages by the University of Cologne and the Zentrum fur Umfragen, Methoden und Analysen, Mannheim. The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) also provided assistance with the processing of the data files in the period 1961-1980. In federal election years, the German Politbarometer is considered part of the German Election Study. However, in some election years when funding is not awarded, election studies are not carried out. The series was funded by the Second Germantelevision Network (ZDF). Pre-election and post-election wave data furnish information on attitudes and electoral behavior of the German electorate, including their views on other political, social, economic, and personal issues. Since 1980, Forschungsgruppe Wahlen (Mannheim) has contributed questions relevant to this series in their regular monthly surveys of the German electorate.
