What is MyData?

MyData is the user registration and authentication system for the ICPSR Web site. The system creates a more secure environment for users and enables them to sign up for notification services that ICPSR is developing. MyData has the following user-friendly features:

  • Uses an e-mail address as a login ID
  • Requires a password to authenticate to the Web site
  • Allows users to create an account and set preferences
  • Allows registered users to reset a forgotten password
  • Enables users to view prior download history
  • Enables users to subscribe to an update notification service that emails users when a study they've previously downloaded is substantially updated

Downloading via MyData

When a user begins to download data via MyData, s/he will be prompted either to log in as a returning user or to create a new account. When a user creates a MyData account, s/he will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire about user preferences.

Do I have to establish a MyData account?

Users that desire to download members-only data and some publicly available data are required to establish a MyData account. Users that desire not to share their name and contact information with the Official Representative at their member institution can request to withhold that information.

Some special topic archives have included the option to download data anonymously due to requirements of their funding agencies. Users on these sites will see an option to log in anonymously.

MyData Navigation

In order to assist users in utilizing MyData, ICPSR has added MyData-specific links to the MyData login. These links are found in a select menu beneath the MyData Login link on the top, right side of the Web page. The links include:

  • Edit Account Settings - To change account information, such as email address, privacy settings, etc.
  • Change Password - To change the user's password.
  • Download Cart - To download files the user has previously selected.
  • Notification Services - To receive email notification when a study the user has previously downloaded is substantially updated.
  • Delete Account - To permanently delete the MyData account.
