A Council of leading scholars and data professionals guides and oversees the activities of ICPSR. The Council consists of twelve persons elected by the membership; six new Council members are elected every two years to serve four-year terms.
The ICPSR Constitution establishes the organizational identity of ICPSR and outlines its purposes, membership and governance structure, and fiscal policies.
The Bylaws describe conditions and benefits of ICPSR membership and provide additional detail about the role and responsibilities of Official Representatives, Council, and ICPSR staff.
The Memorandum of Agreement lays out the terms and conditions of the relationship between ICPSR and its host institution, the Institute for Social Research of the University of Michigan.
ICPSR has three major operations units -- Collection Development, Collection Delivery, and Educational Resources -- as well as a broad Digital Preservation Function, all of which serve to advance ICPSR's mission to the social sciences.
